Qu'est-ce qu’un intemporel ?

What is a timeless?

From season to season, we find them in all our collections. These so-called "timeless" pieces. But how do they become so?

The color

Black pants or a dress; a white shirt; a beige, navy, or khaki coat... We all have one of these pieces in our wardrobes. So-called "neutral" colors are so easy to wear and combine that they're here to stay.

An added bonus: you can mix them with stronger shades without the risk of looking like a Christmas tree!

The cut

Straight cut, a little loose for a jacket or pants, flared for a dress or skirt. Some cuts flatter the silhouette more easily than others. So it's no surprise to see them again year after year.

The functionality

If we look for the origin of so-called timeless clothing, we often realize that it was initially created for "functional" purposes: trench coats or parkas for the military, hard-wearing jeans for Western pioneers, T-shirts, polo shirts or tracksuits for athletes... By going beyond their initial function, these clothes have gradually become timeless and become part of everyday clothing.

Without being uniforms, they are so practical that they have become true wardrobe basics.

The stylistic reference

Even if timeless pieces are not part of a fleeting fashion (which is precisely what makes them "timeless"), some wardrobe classics have been imagined from a well-known trend, endlessly adapted. A perfect example: the sailor top introduced into the women's wardrobe in 1913 by Gabrielle Chanel. Since 2003, it has been revisited in a knitted version by Raphaëlle Cavalli with a model composed of complex offset stripes. Since then, this little marvel of knitting has become a flagship piece of the collection, renewed each year thanks to a small detail. Each year it is and will remain timeless!

The quality

Quality of materials and finishes. A garment may have a timeless cut, but you won't be able to keep it for very long if it fades quickly, tears, or if its seams gradually come loose... The pieces offered by Cotélac have been designed to last.
